My name is Amina Mehmedovic and I am a 17-year-old senior at Sport & Medical Sciences Academy in Hartford, Connecticut. My parents are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a small country in South Eastern Europe. My parents came to America with little to nothing with a constant reminder of the horrible war that they had to live through. Coming to America, my parents didn't have any work experience as well as didn't understand or speak any English. Overtime they were able to establish a better life for themselves as well as me and my siblings. Throughout my whole life, my parents reminded my siblings and I how important school was since they weren't given the opportunity to the education that we have. They constantly believed in us and always pushed us to do our very best. Growing up I learned to value my parents and my education more and more for them. Coming from an immigrant family was able to teach me many thing and gave the opportunity to constantly work hard for everything I want. But to also work hard and give back to my parents for raising me to the independent women I am. My capstone will allow me to work with young kindergarten student and help them to succeed and remember the importance of education.

Mission Statement

My mission is to become an educator so I can do what's best for these young children. I will continue to work hard and at my full potential because I know my parents fought hard for the life we currently have. After I graduate Sport & Medical Sciences Academy, I plan on majoring in Early Childhood Education at Central Connecticut State University and hopefully becoming a teacher who will see many students succeed and remember the importance of their education.
