Mrs. Amy Boutilier

Sport and Medical Sciences Academy

280 Huyshope Avenue

Hartford, CT 06106

Dear Mrs. Boutilier:

For my senior capstone, I plan on going to Naylor CCSU Leadership Academy in Hartford, Connecticut and will be working with Ms. Muriel’s kindergarten class. I will be working with the students during reading centers, reading books to the class, math lesson and worksheets as well as art and crafts projects for different celebrations. I will be going to Naylor every Tuesday  for three hours, helping as much as I possibly can. The reason that I chose this for my capstone is because after high school, I plan on majoring in early childhood education and later teaching an elementary class. This will allow me to get a headstart at my future career with getting some early practice, but will allow me to see all the different opportunities and make sure I make the best decision for my future.

My research question for my capstone is: What are the developmental and academic benchmarks that kindergarten must reach or achieve in order to be successful? This fits perfectly with my capstone because I will be working very closely with all these young children and Ms.Muriel. I will be able to learn all the standards that kindergarten are expected to reach once entering and finishing the school year. I hope to be able to help as many students as possible reach that standard and prepare them for the grades that follow.

My mentor for my senior capstone is Ms. Muriel, her contact information is (860)416-3296 and her email is murie001@hartfordschools.org. She qualifies perfectly to be my mentor because she will be with me every step of my capstone project and will be able to help me with anything throughout the whole time. I predict that my learning stretch will be learning to be patient with the children as well as classroom management strategies, so that I am able to maximize learning for all children.  This will also be a way to push me out of my comfort zone and prepare me for everything that follows.

Sincerely,
